What’s a Scoreboard?

Scoreboards are built-in spreadsheets for your LiveSchool data. They allow you to answer countless questions like:

What are the top positive behaviors in our school?

Which students have earned 5 or more demerits this week?

In this article we talk about the types of Scoreboards, what data you can view on a Scoreboard, and how to add the various filter, sorting, and logic options to organize your data.

Navigate to Scoreboards

From the Main Menu, click on Insights and then Scoreboards. For Admin, you'll see Scoreboard options for Students, Rosters, Grades, Teachers, Behaviors, and Rewards.

Scoreboards is one of the reporting tools in Insights

Scoreboard Types

For teachers, the Scoreboards options are Students, Rosters, Grades, Behaviors, and Rewards.

Just like Dashboards, there are various types of Scoreboards.

The type of Scoreboard determines what is shown in the rows of a Scoreboard.

  • Students Scoreboard shows you each student’s data on a separate row. You can pull up a Students Scoreboard for your whole school, or for a specific roster or grade.

  • Rosters Scoreboard shows each of your Rosters on their own row and the total Points for all of the students in the Roster.

  • Grades Scoreboard shows each of your grades on separate rows and the total Points for all students in the grade.

  • Teachers Scoreboard (admin only) shows each of your teachers and their total merits, demerits, and their ratio of merits to demerits

  • Behaviors Scoreboard lists each of the behaviors on your rubric in rows and the totals for everyone in the school.

  • Rewards Scoreboard lists each of the Rewards on your Rewards menu in rows and shows the total Points spent on your rewards by everyone in the school.

Time Period

Click on the calendar icon in the top-right corner and select the timeframe you'd like to display.

Make sure you’re viewing the timeframe you’re focused on using the time selector in the top, right corner.

Click the time selector and choose from one of our preset or custom time frames:

  • Today

  • This Week - Points earned since Monday

  • This Month - Points earned since the 1st of the month

  • Year to Date - Points earned since July 1st

  • Custom - choose specific dates for a custom Timeframe.

If you're looking to "Reset Bank Accounts" (link) each quarter or semester, you can use the custom time selector to only view Points earned during that time.

The Metrics on Scoreboards

The Scoreboards list Merits, Demerits, Ratio, Bonuses, Earned, Spent, and Saved.

The columns on a Scoreboard tell you (from left to right):

  1. Merits - Total positive Points

  2. Demerits - Total negative Points

  3. Ratio - The ratio of positive to negative Points

  4. Bonuses - this column will be blank as this feature is no longer available

  5. Earned - Merits minus Demerits (if Demerits are set to subtract)

  6. Spent - Total Points spent on Rewards

  7. Saved - Earned Points minus spent Points

Filter By Behavior or Category

From the Student Scoreboard, click on Merits and then Filter. Type in a behavior you'd like to see.

Similar to Timeline, you can filter Scoreboards to only show points for specific behaviors.

Add a filter for any of the Behaviors, or the Behavior categories, on your Rubric. When adding a filter, Behaviors will include a positive/negative Point icon, and Behavior categories include a folder icon.

When you add a category filter, you'll see the total Points for all Behaviors in that category.

Clicking the header of the merits or demerits column will allow you to add a filter for behaviors.

Adding a filter to either the merits or demerits column applies the filter to both columns.

Sort By Metrics

After going from Insights to Scoreboard and selecting Student, click the column heading "Merit" and select Sort to sort from Highest to Lowest or Lowest to Highest.

You can click the header of any column (except the ratio column) to Sort the data on the Scoreboard, from Highest to Lowest or Lowest to Highest.

Add Logic

For any column (except ratio) you can add a more than, equal to, or less than Logic to identify students in a certain range.

You can also add Logic to any of the columns (except ratio) if you’d like to see all students with More than, Less than, a specific number of merits, demerits, spent, etc.

For example, see all Students with more than 10 demerits by adding Logic to the demerits column, like in the video above.

Weight By Points

Click on the settings icon in the top, right corner and toggle "Weight by Points" to On.

Weight By Points is all about the Point value of Behaviors and is on by default. Turning it off is meant to help you see the raw number of times a Point or Reward was recorded, rather than the total Points. Here’s an example to understand how it works:

Imagine that you record 2 Behaviors for a Student, each worth +5 points. The Student’s Point total will calculate as:

10 with Weight By Points “On”

2 with Weight By Points “Off”

Using Weight By Points

There are a few ways you can use this setting on the different Scoreboard types:

  • Students, Roster, or Grade Scoreboard: Choose “On” for the number of Points, or “Off” for the number of Behaviors that have been recorded for each Student, Roster, or Grade.

  • Behaviors Scoreboard: Choose “On” for the total Points earned by all students in each Behavior, or “Off” for the total number of times each Behavior is being used.

  • Rewards Scoreboard: Choose “On” to see the total Points spent on each type of Reward, or “Off” to see the specific number of times each type of Reward has been purchased.

Also, remember:

  • Turning Weight By Points "Off" also hides the Bonuses, Earned, and Saved columns, since these columns are unaffected by this setting.

Download a CSV

Click download in the bottom, right corner.

You can download a CSV of the Scoreboard you’re currently viewing using the Download button in the bottom, right corner.

Drilling Down on Your Data

Clicking on any column for a student would open the Timeline filtered for that column and that student.

Just like Dashboards, you can click on any of the numbers in the Merits, Demerits, or Spent column to view a pre-filtered Timeline with that data.

For example, if you click on the number of Merits for student AaMarrah Walton, you’ll be taken to Timeline with a Student and Point type filter – showing all of the Merits that AaMarrah has earned.

You can also click on the row name (Students' names if in Students Scoreboard) to access a Dashboard for that row.
